Moving Bed Biofilm Reactors (MBBR)

The Siltbuster range of Moving Bed Biofilm Reactors (MBBR) is designed to provide a packaged, plug-and-play aerobic biological treatment system that is easy to operate and maintain.

Using high‑surface‑area media (up to 800m²/m³), they deliver significantly greater treatment capacity within the same footprint compared to traditional mobile solutions such as SAFs.

Even air distribution is achieved through multiple diffusers in each compartment, supported by duty/standby blowers, a common manifold, and ground‑level connections. A dissolved oxygen meter allows operators to optimise treatment while minimising energy use.

The moving media provides a stable surface for biomass growth, allowing the system to self‑regulate without scour cycles and offering faster recovery from shock loads than processes such as Activated Sludge or MBRs. Media is retained with screens, and optional automatic anti‑foam dosing is available to manage foaming during seeding.

Our MBBRs can be provided as part of a packaged solution, including Lamella Settlement Tanks and DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) units, enabling entire treatment plants to be taken offline.
