Work is underway on a new headquarters for The Workdry Group in Chandler’s Ford, creating a flagship workplace for our 1300 employees while maintaining the site’s long-standing role as home of the Selwood branch.
The development at Bournemouth Road represents a significant investment in The Workdry Group’s future, delivering a modern three-storey headquarters designed to support the business’s continued growth. Following the successful demolition of the previous building, construction is progressing well and remains on track for completion by the end of March 2027.
Occupying a prominent position on a major road junction, bus route and approach to the railway station, The Workdry Group and principal contractor Portakabin have committed to carrying out the development responsibly and being considerate of the local community throughout construction.
The new headquarters for The Workdry Group, global specialists in mission-critical water handling, storage and treatment solutions, will be the first development of its kind in the area, designed to set a new benchmark for Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).
Portakabin have manufactured 66 bespoke modules at its manufacturing headquarters in York, which are now being transported to Chandler’s Ford, where they are being installed over a two-week period.
Once complete, the building will feature a floor-to-ceiling glass atrium and reception area alongside a mix of agile and collaborative working spaces, creating a modern, contemporary environment filled with natural light.
The development is also targeting an ‘Excellent’ rating under BREEAM, one of the highest benchmarks for sustainable building performance. The design focuses on energy efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, responsible material selection and a high-quality internal environment that supports employee wellbeing.
It is also targeting 100% biodiversity net gain, in line with the Group’s wider ESG ambitions, with carefully considered landscaping and ecological features including living walls, a planted courtyard, trees to the frontage and bird and bat boxes concealed within the cladding.
Dan Lee, Group CEO at The Workdry Group, said:
Seeing work begin on our new headquarters is an incredibly exciting milestone for The Workdry Group and represents a significant investment in our long-term future here in Chandler’s Ford.
“We’re developing on a prominent site that forms part of people’s everyday journeys through the area, so being a considerate neighbour throughout the construction process is extremely important to us. Working alongside Portakabin, we want to ensure the development is delivered responsibly and leaves a positive legacy for the local area and also provides the foundations to support our ambitious future growth strategy.
“The finished building will give our people a modern, sustainable and collaborative place to work that reflects the business we are today and where we are heading. From the natural light and flexible working areas to the focus on wellbeing and biodiversity, we’re creating an environment in which our people can thrive, while ensuring our environmental ambitions are fully reflected, too.
As part of the works, a new electric power substation will also be installed to power the Group headquarters, Selwood branch operations, Solutions team activities and Product Integration, where pumps are assembled, stored and refurbished.
